Overview

Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International company (PSI), referred to as ATL is seeking a Health and Safety Technician to join our team at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. 

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

  • The health and safety technician 4 provides support to line managers and facility personnel by assisting health and safety professionals with collection of personnel air samples, swipe and bulk sampling, area sampling, real-time sampling, and inspection of areas or review of operations to ensure compliance with Laboratory and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing technical support associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of potential health and safety hazards, or the manipulation of data associated with those hazards.
  • The H/S Technician may also assist with facilitating implementation of health and safety requirements.
  • Work may include field, laboratory, and/or data management activities. Individual assignments and positions may differ in emphasis.
  • Applies extensive knowledge and skills to complete specialized tasks and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Comprehensive understanding of general and technical aspects of the job.
  • Assignments may be broad or narrowly focused, but usually require contributions of original work.
  • Usually includes some responsibility for coordination and participation in developing the final product working with the requestor. Incumbent develops solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity, creativity, and independence.
  • Contributions are of sufficient value to have some impact on the outcome of the entire group accomplishments.
  • Work is performed without appreciable direction.
  • Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results.
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments, which may be completed without established procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Position typically requires a high school diploma and four-to-six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be expected, including associate’s degrees and graduation from technical institutions.
  • Health and safety technician 4 is considered a senior skilled level and has demonstrated skills and knowledge beyond those expected to be found at level 3.
  • Start May through December – 1 specific project, 2 people for each shift (day and swing shift)
  • Will do basic swiping, strictly technician work
  • Must be Beryllium-Trained
