Overview

The Analyst II will provide data analytics support with advanced knowledge and techniques in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications, Power BI, and Data Analysis Expressions. The Analyst II will query and extract data from multiple databases and management information systems, and apply complex formulas to clean data and perform extensive validation. Use advanced formulas and code to automate procedures and to construct, manage, and enhance visualization dashboards, reports, and related products.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting for existing MS Excel and Power BI analysis and dashboard products
  • Provide analytical and data visualization support to develop content and functions for both current and new dashboard and reporting products including but not limited to:
    • Building, organizing, and maintaining interconnected pivot tables, formula-based summary tables, as well as charts, graphs, and other graphical features
    • With instruction and support from WTCHP staff, building, testing, and maintaining complex formulas, as well as VBA code in MS Excel and DAX in Power BI.
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and technical assistance to users of dashboard and reporting products

 

Organizational Context:  This work is for the WTC Health Program only and work will be related to the support the Program’s ability to meet documentation requirements and improve work efficiencies.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel with the ability to construct interactive dashboards using a variety of visual elements and functions including charts, graphs, summary tables, linked shapes and pictures, filters, slicers, and customized buttons.
    • Microsoft Excel formulas used in a standalone context and/or in combined/nested constructions (including but not limited to):
  • INDEX MATCH, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP
  • SUMIFS, AVERAGEIFS, COUNTIFS
  • AVERAGE, STDEV, MEDIAN, MODE
  • TRIM
  • CONCATENATE
  • LEN, LEFT, MID, RIGHT, SEARCH, FIND
  • IF AND/OR
  • SUMPRODUCT
  • FORECAST, FORECAST.LINEAR, FORECAST.ETS
    • Microsoft Excel functions (including but not limited to):
  • PIVOT TABLES
  • CHARTS, PIVOT CHARTS
  • SLICERS
  • CONDITIONAL FORMATTING
  • DATA VALIDATION
  • SORT, FILTER
  • SPARKLINES
  • SHEET PROTECTION, WORKBOOK PROTECTION
  • NAMED RANGES
  • FORM CONTROLS

  • MACROS
    • Working knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) with the ability research, develop, and troubleshoot customized automation procedures for a variety of functions including, but not limited to:
      • message boxes
      • filtering, finding, and replacing cell values
      • copying and pasting cell values
      • hiding/unhiding rows, columns, and worksheets
      • protecting worksheets and workbooks
      • opening, closing, and managing interactions between workbooks  
    • Working knowledge of Power BI with the ability to research, develop, and troubleshoot interactive dashboards using, but not limited to, the following:
      • Connecting to data from multiple sources
      • Cleaning and transforming data by trimming, cleaning, splitting columns, removing rows, replacing values, and creating custom columns
      • Building data models by
        • creating relationships manually and automatically
        • researching, creating, and troubleshooting calculated columns
        • researching, creating, and troubleshooting measures
      • Creating reports using a variety of visualizations, slicers, filters, and visual interactions 
    • Working knowledge of Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) with the ability to research, develop, and troubleshoot calculated columns and measures for use in Power BI reports and dashboards
