Overview

Advanced Technologies & Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is hiring a Structural  for a position at the Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) Facility. 

 

OBJECTIVE

Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C) requires an engineer who will be responsible to act as the Structural Engineering Design Authority/SME for the Advanced Modular Pretreatment System (AMPS) design as part of the Direct Feed Low activity Waste (DFLAW)/AMPS Engineering team. This position will provide subject matter expertise in specified discipline with extensive knowledge of codes and standards applicable to the discipline.

 

 

 

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Structural Engineer will oversee the Architect/Engineer detailed design activities providing discipline specific guidance and design review oversight throughout the detailed design, fabrication, testing, and construction phases of the project. This will require the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out engineering / project tasks. The position will require problem solving and exercise of judgment as required to develop preliminary and engineering alternatives.

 

This position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Function as group Structural Design Authority as part of a multi-discipline Design Authority team assisting Engineering line management and Project management with development of technical work plans and design execution.
  • Provide discipline design and technical reviews of new designs developed by the Architect/Engineer, and other technical documents as required by procedures and as requested.
  • Act as the primary interface with the H2C Engineering Discipline Lead (EDL) to aid smooth and effective design reviews.
  • Use and/or application of technical principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary and final design engineering contract documents (Plans, Specifications & Estimates) for new and existing structures.
  • Perform structural analysis and calculations.
  • Prepare technical reports, quantities, and cost estimate.
  • Review designs, plans, and construction drawings.
  • Provide construction support through field inspections and investigations.
  • Apply working knowledge of IBC, ASCE, AISC, ASTM, ACI and other structural codes, manuals, and standards to engineering design.
  • Coordinate work with other engineering and technical disciplines leads and be adept in working with various clients and their representatives.
  • Maintain technical competence and stay current with tools, methodologies, and standards relevant to their respective discipline.
  • Support operations and project delivery in the identification of appropriate discipline,specific design input and engineering processes, procedures, and standards to be used for the delivery of engineering work.
  • Attend project meetings.

Minimum Requirements

Required Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Civil/Structural engineering.

Desired Qualifications

Desired Qualifications/Skills

  • Currently certified as Registered Professional Engineer (PE), ideally in State of Washington.
  • Extensive knowledge of and proficiency in applicable Hanford Field Office orders, codes, and standards with emphasis on IBC, ASCE, AISC, ASTM, ACI and related structural codes and standards.
  • Experience in design of Safety Significant nuclear facilities.
  • Experienced in the application of structural analysis software, i.e., ANSYS, STAAD, etc.
  • Knowledge of both design and construction of nuclear facilities.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Seismic Design parameters as they relate to the Hanford 200 East Area and 200 West Area.
  • Experience with the development of nuclear safety basis documentation.
