Overview

Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is hiring for a Scientist I in Richland, WA.

 

This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD).

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

The Scientist I position supports the Research and Technology Development Organization at the 222-S Laboratory, a DOE laboratory specializing in the analysis of highly radioactive samples. This position will interface with union represented personnel, chemists, engineers, and public. The ideal candidate must be able to qualify as radiological worker. Primary duties include performing non-routine activities and studies, including, but not limited to: waste and environmental sampling/analysis, process control support and data quality, performing and/or reviewing scientific calculations/analyses, preparing specifications, reports, and data tables.

Under general supervision:

  • Develop new analytical test methods and conduct method qualification studies.
  • Prepare analytical reports and perform technical data reviews.
  • Provide leadership and direction for analytical activities.
  • Function as the technical authority for assigned methods, procedures, and study areas, including person-in-charge functions and configuration control authority.
  • Operate hot cell manipulators to perform in-cell experiments.
  • Provide direction, oversight, and training to Chemical Technologists.
  • Operate under strict deadlines to plan, organize, and manage activities in assigned areas to meet Laboratory and client schedules.
  • Author and perform reviews and systematic process improvements for assigned methods, procedures, and test plans.
  • Act as subject matter expert within assigned areas.
  • Demonstrate diplomacy in working with others (subordinates, peers, support organizations, higher management levels) to obtain desired results. Interface with groups within and outside the 222-S Laboratory.
  • Provide training and/or support to less experienced scientists and other organizations within the 222-S Laboratory.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Chemistry and 7 years directly related experience, or Master's Degree (MS) in Chemistry and 5 years directly related experience; or PhD in Chemistry and 3 years directly related experience.
  • Must be knowledgeable of laboratory analytical
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to qualify as radiological worker.
  • Ability to work well as part of the team (essential).
  • A commitment to analytical excellence and unwavering

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Chemistry
  • Radiological laboratory work experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated scientific communication skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory operations and quality assurance practices
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic work environment
  • Detailed-oriented
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (particularly Word and Excel)

Compensation

Grade 18: $109,013 - $137,538

 

The grade level offered to the selected candidate will be based on business needs and the candidate's education, training, and/or relevant experience.
